Flexible Reclosable Fasteners
 

Flexible Reclosable Fasteners are a group of products that include hook and loop (commonly known as VELCRO™ Brand Fasteners) as well as a number of molded plastic fasteners, such as 3M™ Dual Lock™ . They are commonly called ‘blind fasteners’ because they are used to attach or close assemblies without the evident holes and fastener heads typical of standard mechanical fasteners like screws and rivets. They become functionally invisible on finished assemblies while providing strong, dependable closure of removable components. The finished product has a neat, clean appearance.

1.  Hook & Loop fasteners comprise two mating components, stiff hooks that mesh with pliable napped loops. Pressing the two components together results in a reliable, reusable closure.

2.  Dual Lock™. For a stronger closure, the molded stems of the Dual Lock™ fasteners engage with an audible snap by pressing the mating components together interlocking the stems. This results in a closure with up to 5 times the holding power of hook and loop.

Uses. You can improve your product’s appearance by replacing screws, snaps, bolts, latches, hooks and zippers with hidden hook and loop fasteners and 3M™ Dual Lock™. The following are some typical applications:

• access panels, nameplates, tonneau covers, seat cushions, furniture, clean room drapes, window treatments, speaker grills

• anti-glare computer screens, PC mouse holders and paper guides

• signs, exhibit panels, partitions, displays, brochures, packaging

• sports equipment, medical braces

Attachment. Both types of fasteners are available as plain backed or with a variety of pressure sensitive adhesive backings suitable for a wide range of applications and substrates. With pressure sensitive backed fasteners, there are no holes, protrusions, snap caps, fastener heads or corrosion. Pressure sensitive fasteners apply quickly using peel and stick, high tack adhesives. They require no drilling, glue or tools. The product’s surface is left sleek and clean. Depending on the formulation, bonds are secure at temperatures from -20° F to 250° F.

Widths & Colors. For design flexibility, hook and loop fasteners are available in 5/8" - 12" widths as standard or custom slit to your needs and in a variety of colors. 3M™ Dual Lock™ is available in 1/2" - 4" widths, in black or clear to let your product color show through.

Fabrication & Die-Cutting. Flexible reclosable fasteners can be supplied to you in standard rolls or Gleicher Manufacturing can provide fabricated parts in perforated, multi-piece pads, mated shapes for easy alignment, narrow web, scored rolls and a variety of configurations that are assembly ready for your applications.
