Custom kitting services

When your subassembly line requires converted components at every stage, pulling parts from separate bins quickly becomes time-consuming. Gleicher’s custom kitting services solve this problem by combining die-cut pieces, tape, fasteners, and other converted components into an organized kit that is delivered ready for assembly.

We are proud to be a 3M™ Preferred Converter with over 75 years of experience. Kitting is a natural extension of our services. We help convert your raw materials into complete kits that match your production flow, delivered in one container with everything included.

What custom kitting services mean for manufacturing

Manufacturing kitting is a different process from standard packing. This means we are not simply picking items off of a shelf and putting them in a box. We take raw materials and convert them into finished components. We then assemble those components into a kit that is built specifically for your application.

Every part has already been die-cut, slit, laminated, or otherwise converted to specification when put into a kit. Adhesive backings are set, components are cut to size, and liners are scored for easy removal. Everything in your kit is organized so that your operators or end users can access what they need.

This is important because downtime on manufacturing lines adds up quickly, and when an operator has to stop to locate the correct part, it delays the entire production. Custom kitting from a converter like Gleicher removes that and makes the process much more streamlined.

How Gleicher builds custom kits for your production line

It all begins at the quoting stage. When you order, we collaborate with your engineering or purchasing department to design a kit. This includes which items, how many, where they'll be installed, and packaging instructions.

Next, we initiate converting runs. For example, one component is die-cut from a 3M™ adhesive tape, another is slit-to-width of a hook-and-loop roll, and a third lamination is fed through with a protective film. All of those jobs are completed, and the components are moved to the kitting station.

Kitting specialists assemble each kit according to your specifications. Every component is verified as to quantity, inspected for quality and packed accordingly to ensure safe transit and easy installation.

Every kit is marked with your part number. We can barcode it for integration with your inventory system, and private label the kits in your brand if requested.

Kitting and assembly for adhesive components

Adhesive components require handling that may not be accounted for in standard kitting processes. Pressure-sensitive adhesives usually require controlled environments. Die-cut parts with adhesives must be lined correctly, otherwise they can stick to each other or the packaging.

We have experience working with these materials and understand how to store, handle, and ship adhesive tapes, hook and loop fasteners, foam gaskets, and other converted components so that they arrive in good condition.

All components in your kits are produced through our own converting operation. This means that we can maintain quality control through to the finished kit without relying on third-party suppliers.

Our kitting and assembly work covers:

- Die-cut adhesive parts in custom shapes and sizes

- Slit rolls of tape at your specified width

- Hook and loop fastener pieces with adhesive backing

- Foam gaskets and seals cut to exact dimensions

- Laminated assemblies that combine multiple material layers

- Protective films pre-cut for your application

Why manufacturers choose Gleicher for kitting services

While most kitting operations outsource components, we make the parts and we build the kits.. Less interfaces, better flow, better quality, faster response to a rapid production schedule when you need to make a spec change halfway through production.

As a 3M™ Preferred Converter we work with the entire line of 3M™ adhesives and know what works and where. Need help determining which adhesive to use, we can help.

Frequently asked questions

What is custom kitting?

Custom kitting means grouping individual components into a single kit assembled to a specific customer's requirements. At Gleicher, we convert adhesive tapes, die-cut parts, and fasteners into finished components, then assemble them into kits configured for your production line.

What is a kitting service?

A kitting service takes multiple individual parts and assembles them into organized kits ready for use. Gleicher provides manufacturing kitting: we convert raw materials, produce the components, and assemble them into kits rather than just picking and packing items from a warehouse shelf.

What are kitting fees?

Kitting fees cover the labor, materials, and quality control involved in assembling components into organized kits. The cost depends on component count per kit, assembly complexity, packaging requirements, and order volume. We provide detailed quotes during project scoping.

What is an example of kitting?

A transportation manufacturer needs adhesive gaskets, mounting tape strips, and hook and loop fastener pieces for each vehicle. Instead of ordering each component separately and sorting them on the floor, Gleicher converts all three and assembles them into one kit. The production team opens a single package and has everything for that vehicle.

How does kitting reduce production line downtime?

When operators have every required component in a single organized kit, they don't spend time hunting for parts, verifying counts, or waiting on missing materials. That eliminates the stop-start pattern that eats hours of production across a full shift. With pre-assembled kits, your team picks up a kit and works.
