Display Protection Films for Industrial and Commercial Applications

Display surfaces are some of the most heavily used components in modern-day equipment. From self-service kiosks and medical panels to elevator buttons and industrial touchscreens, all display surfaces are exposed to consistent contact, UV light, cleaning chemicals and everyday wear and tear. Gleicher converts 3M display protection films into production-ready components and supplies precision die-cut, slit and custom-fabricated parts to match the exact dimensions of your display.

As a 3M Preferred Converter, we have worked closely with 3M for over 30 years. Our technical team receives ongoing support, allowing us to suggest a suitable display protection solution for your industrial and commercial applications.

The comparison table below will help you identify which film is best-suited to your application. If you are still at the early design stage, or have an existing solution on your displays that is not meeting your expectations, talk to our team and we will work through your application with you.

How Gleicher works with display protection films

Every display application begins with understanding the environment where the product application is located. Before suggesting a suitable display protection film and converting process for your application, we work with you to evaluate your display materials, location, expected service life and exposure to chemicals.

We can convert films to tight tolerances, using die-cutting to create parts for irregular display shapes, slit master rolls to narrower widths for inline processes, or laser-cut on flatbed or galvo tables where the shape requires it. We can also laminate film layers together to combine properties such as anti-glare over a scratch-resistant film, and if the standard 3M adhesive does not adhere well to your substrate, we can apply an alternative adhesive system.

As a 3M Preferred Converter, our team has product knowledge and experience handling materials that goes beyond what a distributor offers.

Compare display protection film types

Films span three product groups and each is engineered for different display challenges. The table below highlights each group and what it is designed for:

Film type

What it does

Where it fits

3M™ Protection Films (7750AM, 7760AM, GLS200, GLR320, ARMR220, AGF6200)

Defend displays against scratches, abrasion, and chemical attack from disinfectants and solvents. Low-tack adhesive means clean removal when the display is serviced. Over 93% light transmission, no yellowing. Available in glossy, low-reflection, anti-reflection, and anti-glare finishes. EPA-registered Silver Ion antimicrobial hardcoat on select variants.

Kiosks, self-service terminals, elevator controls, thermostats, door push plates, medical device screens, POS displays

3M™ Light Control Films (LCF-P, ALCF-P with ABR0/ABR2)

Narrow the viewing angle so only the person directly in front of the screen can read it. Reduce reflection and sharpen contrast in bright spaces.

ATMs, shared medical workstations, open-plan desks, public screens displaying confidential data

3M™ Display Enhancement Films

Boost backlight brightness while trimming power draw and managing heat.

Commercial signage, industrial HMI panels, transportation displays, battery-powered or thermally constrained applications

Gleicher supplies these films as raw rolls or as converted finished parts depending on customer needs for production line or finished product. For an in-depth look at the protection film range in particular, see the 3M™ Durable Protective Film product page.

Choosing a suitable display protection film for your application

If you select the wrong film type, you may notice edges curling, cloudy display and phantom presses on your touchscreens down the line. Getting your film properties right the first time saves time and money. Gleicher's team has seen enough failed applications to recognize where the common issues arise and how to avoid them.

Consider the following when selecting your display protection film:

  • Surface geometry: Flat panels take standard die-cut pieces while curved or wrapped displays need a film with enough conformability and adhesive flexibility to sit flush without lifting at the edges.
  • Chemical exposure: Healthcare and food-service environments wipe displays with harsh disinfectants such as Clorox, IPA, and hospital-grade quaternary cleaners. The 3M™ Protection Films with antimicrobial hardcoat are designed to survive these protocols. Others are not, and the degradation is cumulative, not immediate.
  • Optical clarity versus glare control: Maximum transparency (93%+ light transmission) matters on backlit medical displays where color accuracy is critical. Anti-glare finishes trade a small amount of sharpness for readability under overhead lighting or in outdoor-adjacent installations.
  • Touch responsiveness: Any film applied over a capacitive or resistive touchscreen has to preserve full touch accuracy. This means no lag, no dead spots, and no missed multi-touch gestures. 3M's display protection films are engineered for this, but thickness and finish of the specific application are always important to consider when choosing.
  • Permanence: The 7750AM bonds permanently or semi-permanently while the 7760AM removes cleanly for servicing. If you make the wrong choice, your display will need repair or replacement.

Frequently asked questions

What are display protection films used for in industrial and commercial settings?

They protect display surfaces in environments where the screen takes repeated physical contact and chemical cleaning such as self-service kiosks, elevator panels, medical equipment displays, POS terminals, and building automation thermostats. The film resists scratches, abrasion, and sanitisation chemicals so the display underneath stays clear and functional for the life of the installation.

What properties matter most when selecting a display protection film?

Features to consider include light transmission (how bright the display stays through the film), scratch and chemical resistance, anti-glare or anti-reflection performance, and whether the film needs to be removable for servicing. On touch-enabled displays, you also need to confirm that the film maintains full touch accuracy across your input technology.

Can Gleicher custom-cut display protection films to specific dimensions?

Yes. We die-cut, slit, and laser-cut 3M™ display protection films to customer specifications. From custom shapes for irregular display frames and narrow slit rolls for inline application to kiss-cut parts with pull tabs for use in the field, we do it all.

Do display protection films work on touch screens?

3M display protection films maintain touch sensitivity across both capacitive and resistive technologies. Display clarity is unaffected, as the film allows over 93% light transmission. There is no added lag or gesture interference, and the films can be cleaned continually without degrading touch performance.
